Kavi Subhash Metro to be demolished, rebuilt after cracks found; May remain shut for a year

Kavi Subhash Metro station has been shut since days after cracks were detected in multiple structural pillars. Following inspections, all services from the terminal station were suspended due to safety concerns. The station lies at the southern end of Kolkata Metro’s North-South corridor and connects with the New Garia suburban railway network.

Authorities have now decided to fully demolish the existing structure and build a new station in its place. An e-tender has already been issued for the reconstruction, with the project estimated to cost ₹9.42 crore. The process, which includes dismantling the current station and rebuilding platforms and pillars, is expected to take 9 to 10 months. However, officials indicated that it could take up to a year for the station to reopen fully.

No alternative arrangements or shuttle services have been announced for affected passengers. The closure has disrupted travel for commuters from southern suburbs who depend on the Kavi Subhash terminal for daily transit.
