Jr Doctors announce 'hunger strike' from today, says demands not met
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, countered allegations from the Enforcement Directorate on Friday, denying claims that his client deliberately raised his blood sugar levels by consuming mangoes, aloo-poori, and sugar. Singhvi clarified to a court in the national capital that Kejriwal had only eaten aloo-poori once as Navratri prasad and was using artificial sweeteners as a sugar replacement in his tea.
Kejriwal, who suffers from diabetes, has filed a petition in Delhi's Rouse Avenue court seeking directions to Tihar Jail authorities regarding the provision of insulin to manage his condition.
The Enforcement Directorate had asserted on Thursday that Kejriwal was attempting to lay the groundwork for seeking bail.
Responding to the allegations Sanghvi noted that Arvind Kejriwal suffers from diabetes, his blood sugar levels had been consistently high. He further alleged that the doctor attending to Kejriwal in Tihar jail had not been providing him with insulin, accusing the authorities of conducting a media trial by suggesting that Kejriwal was intentionally raising his sugar levels.
