Kejriwal’s car attacked during Delhi campaign; BJP and AAP exchange allegations | Watch

On Saturday, during an election rally in the New Delhi constituency, Arvind Kejriwal's vehicle was reportedly attacked while he was campaigning. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parvesh Verma of throwing bricks and stones at Kejriwal’s car. AAP claimed that the attack was a deliberate effort to disrupt Kejriwal's campaign. The party posted a video of the incident, alleging that Verma's supporters were responsible for the attack, and expressed that such actions would not deter Kejriwal from continuing his election efforts.

In a counterclaim, BJP candidate Parvesh Verma asserted that Kejriwal’s vehicle hit two individuals during the rally. Verma said that the two injured persons were taken to Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital for treatment. He stated that the incident occurred as people were reportedly questioning Kejriwal, which led to the collision. Verma criticized Kejriwal for allegedly disregarding the welfare of individuals in his campaign and emphasized that the injuries were a result of Kejriwal’s actions.

The AAP rejected Verma’s allegations, maintaining that Kejriwal was not responsible for the injuries of any individuals. The party reiterated its claim that the vehicle was attacked by Verma’s supporters, and insisted that the incident was an attempt to intimidate the Delhi Chief Minister. Despite the attack, AAP emphasized that Kejriwal would continue his election activities and stated that such actions would only strengthen his resolve.

The altercation occurred amid the intensifying election campaign for the New Delhi constituency, with the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5. The constituency, which is one of the most high-profile in the city, is witnessing intense competition between the candidates. Kejriwal, Verma, and Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit are all contesting in the area, with both AAP and BJP aggressively campaigning for support.

The dispute between AAP and BJP has been marked by multiple accusations. Prior to the incident, AAP had accused Verma of distributing money and shoes to voters, filing a police complaint in connection with the allegations. Verma dismissed these claims as attempts by Kejriwal to garner sympathy ahead of the elections. The ongoing accusations, coupled with the alleged attack, have added to the already charged political climate in Delhi as the election date approaches.
