A 29-year-old Indian civil engineer, Issac Paul Olakkengil, tragically died during a scuba diving training session at Dubai's Jumeirah Beach on Friday. The Kerala native was vacationing with his wife Reshma and younger brother Ivin during the Eid holidays when he reportedly experienced breathing difficulties underwater and suffered cardiac arrest.
The incident unfolded during a training session in a designated scuba diving area. Issac reportedly moved away from the group after struggling to breathe, which caused panic among the other divers, including his wife and brother. While all three were rescued and rushed to the shore, Issac could not be revived at the hospital. His brother Ivin, who collapsed upon reaching the hospital, remains under medical observation but is now stable.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, seizing all diving equipment used during the session. Issac’s family is working with Dubai police to complete the formalities for repatriation of his body to India.
