Mamata awards 50 lakhs to female footballers of East Bengal team
A Kerala businessman’s attempt to cover up the misuse of Rs 40 lakh turned into a failed heist after police uncovered the orchestrated robbery through CCTV footage and vehicle tracking. The prime suspect, PM Rahees, along with two accomplices, Sajid alias Shaji and Jamshid, were arrested by the Kozhikode City Police after a two-day investigation.
On March 20, Rahees lodged a complaint claiming that Rs 40.25 lakh was stolen from his car while parked at a private hospital in Poovattuparamba. He alleged that the cash belonged to a relative who had handed it over for safekeeping. CCTV footage initially seemed to support his claim, showing two masked men on a scooter breaking into his car and fleeing with a bag. However, inconsistencies soon emerged, raising police suspicions.
Investigators discovered that the scooter’s number plate was fake, making it harder to trace. Upon further tracking, police arrested Sajid and Jamshid, who confessed that the stolen item was merely an empty box and a bag, with no cash inside. This revelation led to Rahees’ arrest, exposing the entire scheme.
Police revealed that Rahees had been entrusted with Rs 40 lakh by a Bengaluru-based company, where his father-in-law worked as a manager. The funds were meant for the company’s Kerala branches, but Rahees had already spent the money on personal expenses. Unable to return the amount, he staged the fake robbery to avoid scrutiny.
The case was cracked using CCTV analysis, forensic investigation, and tracking of digital evidence. The accused have been booked for filing a false complaint and staging a fake crime, while authorities continue investigating the source of the funds and any potential financial irregularities.
This botched robbery stunt, intended as an escape plan, has now landed Rahees and his accomplices in deeper trouble as the police widen their probe into possible financial fraud.
