Kerala recorded 300 new active cases of COVID-19 and reported three deaths on December 20, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total number of active cases in India stands at 2,669. Addressing concerns over the new variant, a Kerala-based health expert, Dr. Sreejith N Kumar, stated that COVID-19 is comparable to other communicable diseases and cannot be completely eradicated.

While acknowledging a decrease in the disease's impact, he noted that it now resembles common influenza or a typical cold.

Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a high-level meeting to review India's COVID-19 situation, emphasizing the importance of preparedness against emerging strains and urging states to ensure sufficient medical resources.
