A 26-year-old software engineer from Kerala, Ananthu Aji, died by suicide, leaving behind a detailed note that has sent shockwaves across the state. In the note, shared on social media, Ananthu alleged that he was sexually and physically abused by a neighbour and several members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from a young age. He wrote, “I am not angry with anyone, except one person and an organisation… the RSS, which my father (a very good person) made me join. That is where I have suffered lifelong trauma.”
The suicide note also revealed that Ananthu’s mental health had deteriorated over the years due to the alleged abuse, leading to obsessive-compulsive disorder and deep psychological distress. His death has triggered widespread political reactions, with Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi demanding a full investigation and accountability. The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has also urged authorities to take immediate legal action against those named in the note.
The case has reignited debates around institutional accountability and the handling of abuse allegations within political and social organisations. Police are expected to begin a detailed inquiry into the claims as public pressure mounts for justice for Ananthu.
