Khageshwar Roy to remain in TMC, takes U-turn on exit decision after Mamata's call

Ending days of speculation, Khageswar Roy has confirmed that he will continue with the Trinamool Congress after a direct intervention by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The four-time MLA said his concerns over not receiving a party ticket have now been resolved following a phone call from the party supremo.

Addressing a press conference alongside senior leaders, Roy stated that Mamata Banerjee had personally called him on Wednesday night and instructed him to continue working for the party. He emphasised that he would abide by her directive and actively support the party’s candidates in the upcoming assembly elections.

Roy admitted that he had been upset since the announcement of candidates and had been vocal about his dissatisfaction. However, he clarified that the issue has now been settled and there are no differences with the party leadership, reaffirming his commitment to the organisation.

A founding member of the party in Jalpaiguri district, Roy has been a prominent figure in the Rajganj constituency since winning a by-election in 2009, followed by consecutive victories in 2011, 2016, and 2021. His exclusion from the 2026 ticket list had triggered political speculation, which now appears to have been resolved with his decision to remain with the party.
