Massive fire engulfs chemical factory in Howrah, 15 tenders rushed to spot
With Ram Navami celebrations set to take over the streets of Kolkata on April 6, one of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 matches is likely to be rescheduled. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fixture at Eden Gardens is expected to be relocated to Guwahati due to security concerns.
Every year, Ram Navami witnesses massive religious processions across Kolkata, requiring extensive security arrangements. With the IPL match scheduled on the same day, Kolkata Police and local authorities have expressed concerns over their inability to provide adequate security for both events.
According to reports, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has selected Guwahati as the alternate venue for the match. CAB President Snehasis Ganguly confirmed the decision, stating that the move was necessary given the scale of the festivities.
This isn't the first time that Kolkata has faced a scheduling issue due to major religious events. In IPL 2024, a match between KKR and Rajasthan Royals had to be rescheduled for similar reasons. The logistical challenges posed by such occasions make it difficult to manage large-scale events like IPL games simultaneously.
While an official confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still awaited, sources suggest that the match will almost certainly be moved. Fans in Kolkata will have to wait for another home game to see their team in action at Eden Gardens.
