The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has updated its building regulations, permitting 4-storey buildings on plots larger than 3 kathas. For smaller plots, the existing limits remain—3-storey buildings are allowed on land up to 2 kathas. For 7 to 10 chhatak plots, 3-storey construction is permitted, provided there is a 1-foot setback in the front and 2 feet on the sides. KMC has also introduced a faster approval process, ensuring sanctions are granted within 15 days of application.
Additionally, the structural certification fee for non-commercial buildings in colony and slum areas has been reduced from ₹3.27 lakh to ₹42,000. For under-construction commercial buildings, new regulations require a 6:3-sized information board displaying key details like land size, sanction certificate number, building plan approval, promoter’s name, LBS details, RERA number, and floor count. Mayor Firhad Hakim has stated, "If these details are not displayed, I will consider the construction illegal."
