Rail passengers in Kolkata are likely to face inconvenience this weekend as several local trains in the Sealdah division have been cancelled due to a scheduled traffic block. The block has been imposed to carry out non-interlocking work between Dumdum and nearby sections to improve signalling and safety systems in the suburban railway network.
According to railway authorities, the traffic block will remain in effect from 11:50 pm on Saturday, April 4, to 4:20 am on Sunday, April 5, lasting a total of 270 minutes. During this period, multiple services on the Sealdah–Dankuni, Sealdah–Ranaghat, Sealdah–Bangaon and Sealdah–Krishnanagar routes will either be cancelled or partially controlled, affecting late-night and early-morning commuters.
On Saturday night, several trains will remain cancelled including Sealdah–Dankuni (32249 up/32252 down), Sealdah–Ranaghat (63111 up), Sealdah–Naihati (31447 up/31450 down), Sealdah–Bangaon Junction (33859 up/33860 down) and Sealdah–Krishnanagar City Junction (31844 down). On Sunday morning, Sealdah–Dankuni (32211 up/32212 down), Sealdah–Krishnanagar City Junction (31811 up) and Sealdah–Bangaon Junction (33811 up) local trains will also remain cancelled. Apart from cancellations, the routes of several trains have been shortened. Saturday’s Lalgola–Sealdah MEMU (63106 down) will terminate at Ranaghat instead of Sealdah, while the Shantipur–Sealdah local will run only up to Barrackpore. The Sealdah–Shantipur local (31511 up) on Sunday will originate from Barrackpore, and Bangaon–Sealdah local (33858 down) will end at Dumdum Cantonment. Similarly, Sealdah–Bangaon local (33863 up) will start from Dumdum Cantonment station.
