The West Bengal government has instructed Metro Railway Kolkata to extend its train services until midnight on October 27 to facilitate the movement of people attending the grand 'Durga Puja festival.' In anticipation of a significant turnout for the festival's celebration on Kolkata's Red Road, the Special Commissioner of the Traffic Department has communicated this directive to the General Manager of Metro Railway.
The Durga Puja festival in Kolkata is renowned for its vibrant and captivating parades, where elaborately crafted idols are showcased. In recognition of the cultural significance of this event, UNESCO designated Durga Puja in Kolkata as an 'Intangible Cultural Heritage' in 2021.
Additionally, the West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) has announced the operation of 23 additional buses until midnight on October 27 to further enhance transportation services during the festival.
