Kolkata gets female OCs after 16 years as 33 cops were reshuffled

The Kolkata Police department underwent a massive administrative restructuring on Thursday, with a total of 33 inspectors, including Officers-in-Charge (OCs) and Additional OCs, being reshuffled. As part of this sweeping directive issued by Lalbazar, the operational heads of approximately twenty police stations across the city have been changed. This extensive bureaucratic shake-up marks the second major structural reorganization within the city's police force this month, following earlier high-profile transfers of Deputy Commissioners and Joint Commissioners.

In a historic development, two police stations in Kolkata will be headed by female inspectors after a gap of 16 years. Inspector Chameli Mukherjee, who previously served at the Ultadanga women's police station and had a brief stint at Kalighat before the elections, has been appointed as the new OC of Sinthi police station in North Kolkata. Concurrently, Inspector Rupa Singh, the former head of the Tollygunge women's police station, has taken over as the new Officer-in-Charge of the Sarshuna police station.

Other significant appointments include Rajib Chatterjee taking charge as the new OC of Bhabanipur police station, succeeding Soumitra Basu, who has been reassigned to the Special Task Force (STF). Furthermore, Mausam Chatterjee has been posted as the OC of Chetla, Amit Chatterjee takes over at Park Street, and Gautam Rooj will head the Bhangar police station. This local reshuffle closely follows a notification issued by Nabanna a week ago that transferred 108 Inspectors-in-Charge (ICs) statewide, aligning with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's governance objective to restructure administrative accountability within two months of taking office.
