In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Detective Department of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police seized approximately 21 kilograms and 800 grams of ganja from two trolley bags and arrested a 38-year-old man on Saturday night. The operation was carried out under Mahananda Bridge following a specific tip-off.
The arrested individual has been identified as Bharat Kumar Das, a resident of Kolkata. Acting swiftly on intelligence inputs, police intercepted him before he could move further with the contraband. The narcotics were recovered from two trolley bags in his possession during the raid.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused was allegedly planning to smuggle the ganja from Cooch Behar to South Bengal. He is currently being interrogated, and further investigation is underway to ascertain possible links and the broader network involved in the smuggling attempt.
