A Kolkata man, Rajeev Ghosh, has been found guilty of abducting and raping a seven-month-old baby in Badatala. The incident occurred on November 30, when the infant’s parents, who lived on the footpath, reported their child missing at the Baratalo Police Station. The police immediately began a search, which resulted in the baby being rescued shortly after.
The accused was identified and arrested on December 4 from Jhargram, following a detailed investigation. CCTV footage from nearby streets played a significant role in identifying the accused. The police compiled a 13-page charge sheet and filed the case under Sections 137(2), 65(2) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The special POCSO court at Bankshal heard the case and gathered testimonies from multiple witnesses, corroborating the evidence against Ghosh. The court found Ghosh guilty on Monday, and the sentencing is scheduled for tomorrow, February 17, at 1:30 PM.
