Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation has announced an increase in metro train frequency effective Monday, August 11. On Green Line 1, running between Sealdah and Salt Lake, two additional trains will be introduced, raising the total number of daily services from 106 to 108. The first train from Sealdah will now depart at 6:35 AM, 20 minutes earlier than the previous 6:55 AM schedule. The first train from Salt Lake towards Sealdah will also start earlier, at 6:40 AM instead of 7 AM. The last metro timings for this route will remain unchanged. Sunday services on this line will continue to be suspended.
On Green Line 2, which operates between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade, the total number of metro services will increase from 130 to 134 per day. The first trains from both Howrah Maidan and Esplanade will depart at 6:30 AM, 30 minutes earlier than the previous 7 AM start time. The last metro from both ends will continue to depart at 9:45 PM. Services on this route will remain operational on Sundays.
The Purple Line, connecting Joka to Majherhat, will also see an increase in train frequency. The first metro from Joka will now leave at 6:50 AM, earlier than the previous 8 AM departure. Similarly, the first metro from Majherhat will depart at 7:14 AM instead of 7:57 AM. The last trains from Joka and Majherhat will leave at 8:36 PM and 8:57 PM respectively, with no changes to weekend service suspension, as trains on this route remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
These adjustments reflect Kolkata Metro’s updated schedule aiming to improve commuter convenience. No changes have been made to night service timings on any of the lines. Passengers are advised to note the revised timings starting from August 11 and plan their journeys accordingly.
