Kolkata Metro to run special late-night trains for India–West Indies Super Eight match at Eden

Kolkata Metro will operate special late-night services on Sunday to facilitate spectators attending the high-stakes Super Eight clash between India and the West Indies at Eden Gardens. With the match scheduled to begin at 7 pm and likely to continue until around 10:30 pm, the additional services aim to ensure smooth travel for fans returning home after the game.

Two special trains will depart from Esplanade station at 11:15 pm — one towards Dakshineswar and the other towards Shahid Khudiram station. Both trains will halt at all intermediate stations along the Blue Line. Metro authorities have also confirmed that ticket counters at Esplanade station will remain open to accommodate the expected rush. Similar arrangements are typically made during IPL matches, and the same protocol has been extended for this marquee international fixture.

The match holds particular significance as it is the only opportunity for Kolkata fans to watch India at Eden Gardens during this tournament. None of India’s group-stage games, nor the semifinals and final, are being played in the city. Sunday’s contest has effectively taken the shape of a knockout, with a semifinal berth at stake.

India, who bounced back with a commanding 72-run win over Zimbabwe after an opening loss to South Africa, will look to secure a place in the last four with a victory over the West Indies. With elimination looming in case of defeat, anticipation is running high, and a packed Eden Gardens is expected to witness the decisive encounter.
