Court sends Councilor Mahesh Sharma to 6-day police custody in extortion case
Four individuals have been arrested in Kolkata in connection with the audacious killing of gangster Chandan Mishra inside a private hospital in Patna earlier this month. The arrests, made during a collaborative operation between Patna and Kolkata Police, include the alleged principal shooter, Tauseef Badshah, along with his cousin Nishu Khan and a woman identified as Alpana Das. This development marks a major step in unraveling the conspiracy behind the high-profile murder that took place on July 11.
The extensive operation was conducted at a guest house in Kolkata on Saturday evening. Patna Police, in close coordination with Kolkata Police and the Special Task Forces (STFs) of both states, carried out simultaneous raids at multiple locations across Kolkata. The suspects had reportedly fled Bihar shortly after the murder of Chandan Mishra, who was undergoing medical treatment at Paras Hospital in Patna when the incident occurred.
According to investigative sources, Tauseef Badshah, identified as the main shooter, had been in hiding in Kolkata since the murder. His cousin, Nishu Khan, who himself has a history of being injured in an unrelated shooting and is now partially paralyzed, is believed to have played a crucial role in the conspiracy and logistical support for the escape. Despite his physical condition, Nishu reportedly fled Patna immediately after the murder and provided shelter to the gunmen at his residence near Paras Hospital, indicating a deep level of involvement.
The list of those arrested includes Tauseef Badshah, who is considered the alleged main shooter and prime conspirator in the killing. Nishu Khan is accused of providing shelter and critical logistical support to the perpetrators. Sachin Singh is alleged to have helped coordinate the escape of the accused from Patna. Harsh alias Harish Kumar is said to have conducted surveillance on the victim and accompanied the shooter two days before the incident, indicating pre-meditated planning.
Bhim Kumar's specific role in the murder is currently under investigation, suggesting that police are still piecing together the full extent of the conspiracy. Alpana Das is the only woman arrested in connection with the case, and police have not yet disclosed her specific involvement, keeping details confidential as the investigation progresses. Sources also indicate that two additional suspects, whose names are currently being withheld, have been apprehended but await further confirmation of their roles.
The five-member shooter group involved in the crime is believed to comprise Tauseef Badshah, Monu, Balwant, Abhishek, and Nilesh. Authorities confirm that not all five members of this group have been arrested yet, and a massive manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in Chandan Mishra's murder, as police continue their efforts to dismantle the entire criminal network responsible for the audacious act.
