The Kolkata Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for illegal possession of a firearm in the heart of the city. Acting on a tip-off, officials from Tengra police station apprehended Sheikh Shahzad near Pulin Khatik Road on Friday. Shahzad, a resident of Bediyadanga Lane under the Kasba police station area, was found carrying a single-shot firearm along with a cartridge.
During initial questioning, the accused failed to provide any clear explanation for possessing the weapon. A case has been registered against him under the Arms Act at Tengra police station.
Police are currently investigating the source of the weapon and the motive behind its possession. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of Shahzad’s links to a broader criminal network. Efforts are underway to trace the origin and intended use of the firearm.
