Kolkata Police’s Detective Department once again proved its sharpness when officers from the Watch Section arrested two notorious thieves within hours of receiving a tip-off. Yesterday, the team laid a trap in the busy Sealdah area and caught Md Jahid (24) and Md Saheb alias Wazid (32).
The duo was wanted in separate theft cases registered at Alipore and Shakespeare Sarani police stations. During tough questioning, Jahid admitted to stealing Rs 10,000 from a passenger’s pocket while travelling in a crowded bus. He led the officers to the spot where he had hidden the money and Rs 9,000 was immediately recovered and seized by cops.
As per reports, both accused are habitual offenders who target people in public transports and crowded places. The arrested men has been produced in court today and further investigation is on to find out if they are linked to more such thefts across the city.
