A tragic road accident on the Basanti Highway resulted in the death of a serving Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Kolkata Police. The deceased officer has been identified as Shahabuddin Biswas, who was posted at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office of the Bhangar Division.
The incident occurred late on Thursday night as the officer was returning home on his motorbike after completing his duty shift. The fatal accident took place in the Bairampur area of the highway. According to preliminary reports, a truck lost control and violently collided with the ASI's bike.
Following the accident, the police managed to seize the truck involved in the collision. However, the driver responsible for the incident immediately fled the scene and remains at large. Police have registered a case and launched an extensive manhunt to trace and apprehend the absconding driver.
