Kolkata Police Commissioner conducts night inspection of Police stations and CM's residence

Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal undertook a night-time review of the security arrangements in the city, which included an inspection of various police stations, as well as the residence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The Police Commissioner left his official residence on Loudon Street around 11:00 pm and was accompanied by other police officers, while the pilot car ensured his safety during the inspection.

The first stop on the itinerary was Park Circus, where the Commissioner held discussions with police officials stationed there. He then proceeded to Tiljala, Watganj, Iqbalpur and Bhawanipur police stations, where he inspected the facilities and enquired about any recent incidents.

The visit to Tiljala police station was particularly significant, as it was the site of a recent rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl. The Police Commissioner expressed concern and sought an update on the progress of the investigation. At Watganj police station, a young man had died after an iron rod fell from a building under construction, prompting the Commissioner to enquire about the status of the investigation.

Ekbalpur police station was the next stop, where communal riots had occurred six months prior. The Commissioner assessed the situation in the area and reviewed the security arrangements, before proceeding to Bhawanipur police station, where a double murder had recently occurred and the suspect was still at large.

The inspection concluded with a review of the security arrangements at the residence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Commissioner instructed the officers on duty to patrol the area regularly, monitor the premises every hour, and check all the equipment every morning. The instructions were prompted by a previous incident in which an individual had entered the Chief Minister's residence with an iron rod and remained outside her room overnight.
