Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal has moved the court against senior BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari for putting fake photos on social media
Shubhendu had claimed that a bus escorted by Kolkata Police was used to transport documents related to corruption or coal or cattle smuggling
The petition filed by Vineet Goyal in the Bankshall Court states that the claims made by Shubhendu through the picture are completely fake, and action should be taken against him under the sections of criminal conspiracy
Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal has taken legal action against Shubhendu Adhikari, a senior BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition in West Bengal.
The state government has filed a case against Adhikari in the Bankshall Court of Kolkata on behalf of Goyal. The case alleges that Adhikari attempted to defame the Kolkata Police by sharing fake photos on social media.
On April 16, Adhikari shared a picture on Twitter alleging that a bus was escorted by the Kolkata Police team from the Kalighat area to Patuapara in the middle of the night. He claimed that the road was blocked to allow documents related to corruption, coal, or cattle smuggling to be transported and destroyed in the bus. Adhikari tagged Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and requested the central agencies CBI and ED to preserve the CCTV footage of the area.
Goyal's petition, filed in the Bankshall Court, asserts that the claims made by Adhikari are completely false and were intended to tarnish the image of the police. The petition seeks action against Adhikari under criminal conspiracy charges. The court has accepted the petition, and a hearing is expected soon.
