In Kolkata, a total of 1,10,929 vehicles were caught breaking traffic rules and issued challans by the Kolkata Police from Mahalaya to Navami during the Durga Puja festivities. Over 50 percent of these violations were related to bikes, followed by four-wheeler private vehicles. While there were a few road accidents during this period, no major untoward incidents were reported.
The violations primarily included reckless driving, improper parking, and riding without helmets. One of the significant issues highlighted was inadequate parking facilities near the pavilions, leading to 40,584 complaints regarding vehicles parked in no-parking zones. Specifically, 21,183 cases were registered for bikers riding without helmets, and 10,509 cases were for speeding, with small cars contributing to a significant portion of the violations.
