Kolkata Police launches ‘Pink Booths’ at key crossings, all-women patrols on roads

Kolkata Police has introduced two new initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s safety across the city, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announcing the measures on Saturday. She said the steps are designed to enhance security and build greater confidence among women, particularly during evening and late-night hours.

Under the first initiative, ‘Pink Booths’ will be set up at major intersections in the city. These booths will be operated entirely by women police personnel and will function daily from evening until midnight. Women in distress or requiring assistance will be able to directly approach the female officers stationed at these booths.

The second initiative, named ‘Shining,’ involves the deployment of all-women mobile patrolling teams. These teams will patrol daily from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am along EM Bypass and other major roads, with priority given to routes that witness higher movement of working women during late hours.

The Chief Minister stated that Kolkata has consistently ranked among the safest cities in the country and expressed confidence that the new initiatives will further reinforce the police’s commitment to ensuring a secure environment for women in the city.
