Court sends Councilor Mahesh Sharma to 6-day police custody in extortion case
Kolkata Police arrested three individuals on charges of black-marketing tickets for the T20 World Cup match between India and West Indies at Eden Gardens. The accused were allegedly attempting to sell match tickets to the public at inflated prices when they were apprehended.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mayank Dhamania (31), Ashish Bag (58), and Bikash Seth (35). According to police, the trio was caught during an operation conducted near the stadium premises while trying to sell tickets illegally ahead of the high-profile cricket match. During the operation, police seized five match tickets from the accused. Officers stated that the individuals were allegedly offering the tickets to buyers at rates significantly higher than the official price, indicating an attempt to profit from the high demand surrounding the match.
The accused were later detained and handed over to the Maidan police station. Authorities have initiated legal action against them under relevant sections of the Calcutta Police Act as part of efforts to curb ticket black-marketing around major sporting events.
