On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a special event was organised by Kolkata Police at Bodyguard Lines. The event was attended by Police Commissioner Manoj Verma, West Bengal Minister Shashi Panja, and several senior officers. The programme marked the department’s observance of the global anti-drug initiative and included statements on law enforcement efforts and internal discipline.
During his address, Police Commissioner Manoj Verma stated, “Kolkata Police runs anti-drug campaigns throughout the year. The city’s security has improved considerably. While smuggling attempts continue in certain pockets, we are keeping a strict watch.” He further added that this year’s Rath Yatra would also be held in Digha and that necessary security measures had been arranged in Kolkata for the occasion.
Referring to a video circulating online, which shows police personnel allegedly taking money, Verma said, “We are in constant dialogue with our senior officers and are training all personnel to follow strict discipline. Strict action is being taken against those involved in such misconduct, so that such incidents are reduced.”
