Two individuals suspected of being involved in drug smuggling have been apprehended by airport police in an area adjacent to Kolkata airport. The arrest of the accused took place after the police received information from a source late last night. Upon raiding the Gouripur area, a vehicle was searched, and 144 kg of banned drugs were found.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Manoranjan Guchait (29) and Biswajit Khatua (26), both residents of West Medinapur.
The police arrested the two individuals in the car and transported them to the airport police station for further questioning.
The police believe that the arrested individuals were involved in drug smuggling, although the details of where the banned drugs were being transported from and to are currently under investigation.
The airport police will be taking the accused to the Barrackpore court today and will be requesting seven days of police custody for further investigation.
