The official X handle of Kolkata Police reportedly unfollowed former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee following the BJP’s victory in the state assembly elections. The account has now started following Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, and the official accounts of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The changes on the social media handle came after the BJP secured victory in the West Bengal assembly elections and prepared to form the government in the state. The shift in the following list on the Kolkata Police account coincided with political and administrative changes taking place across Kolkata after the election results.
Additional security deployment outside Trinamool Congress headquarters and the residences of several party leaders in the city was also withdrawn during the same period. The developments took place ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP government in West Bengal under chief minister-designate Suvendu Adhikari.
