IMD warns of severe storms, hail, and heavy rain across Bengal; IPL opener at risk
A large-scale protest was held today in Kolkata, with activists marching from College Square to Esplanade, demanding an immediate stop to the killings of tribals in Chhattisgarh under the pretext of Naxal suppression. The protest was organized by several prominent organizations, including the Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR), People’s Democratic Front of India (PDSF), Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU), and Human Rights. Demonstrators voiced their concerns over the ongoing violence and urged both the state and central governments to take urgent action.
The protesters called for the removal of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) from the forests of Chhattisgarh, which are home to indigenous tribal communities. They emphasized that the CRPF's presence is exacerbating tensions and leading to increased violence in the region. The organizations participating in the protest demanded that the killings be halted and that the government address the root causes of the conflict. They also advocated for the restoration of tribal rights and the protection of their lands from external interference.
