Rain washes RCB vs KKR match; Defending champions knocked out of playoff race
Tarak Singh, Member in Charge (MIC) of drainage at the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), has assured citizens that the city is well-prepared to tackle heavy rainfall this monsoon. Speaking on the city's readiness, Singh claimed that KMC is equipped to drain 100 to 200 millimeters of water within a few hours.
According to Singh, proactive measures have already been implemented to minimize waterlogging across Kolkata. Special drainage setups have been readied in flood-prone areas, and additional pumping stations are on standby to expedite water removal during peak rainfall.
Highlighting KMC's preparations, Singh emphasized that regular cleaning of drains and canals has been conducted over the past few months. Emergency teams have been deployed across the city, especially in vulnerable zones, to respond swiftly in case of water accumulation.
KMC has also coordinated with various municipal departments to ensure uninterrupted operations during heavy downpours. Generator backups, mobile pumps, and emergency manpower are prepared to act in case of extreme weather conditions.
Tarak Singh expressed confidence that with these measures in place, Kolkata will experience significantly less disruption even in the face of heavy rainfall. He assured residents that the drainage system would be able to clear accumulated water within a few hours, restoring normalcy.
With monsoon clouds already looming, the focus now shifts to real-time execution of these plans. Citizens are hopeful that the city's promises of preparedness will translate into visible action when the rains arrive.
