Kolkata Police has announced a restriction on the movement of all goods vehicles in the city from February 10 to 22. The restriction will apply every day from 6 AM to 12 PM across areas under Kolkata Police jurisdiction. The decision has been made to ensure smooth traffic flow during the examination period, minimizing disruptions near exam centers. The restriction is part of a broader effort to improve safety and reduce congestion caused by heavy goods vehicle traffic during peak hours.
The scheduled exams are set for February 11, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 22. During these dates, all goods vehicles will face traffic restrictions. However, vehicles carrying essential goods and services will be exempt from these restrictions. This includes emergency vehicles, as well as those transporting LPG cylinders, petroleum, oil, oxygen, milk, medicines, vegetables, fruits, fish, and other vital goods. These vehicles will be allowed to operate until 8 AM on the restricted days to ensure the continuous availability of necessary supplies.
Authorities have specified that these restrictions will affect major routes across Kolkata, especially near key exam centers. The Kolkata Police has advised local commuters to plan their travel routes carefully to avoid disruptions. The goods vehicle restrictions will be lifted after 12 PM each day, allowing normal traffic to resume. Public cooperation is expected to ensure smooth enforcement of these measures, which aim to provide a disturbance-free environment for the exams.
