Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A young woman in Kolkata was subjected to a harrowing ordeal of gang rape, kidnapping, and blackmail after being lured with the promise of a teaching job at a private school. The nightmare began in February when an acquaintance and his companion offered to take her for an interview in Howrah. Instead of reaching the school, the accused parked the car under the Vidyasagar Setu flyover in the Hastings area. There, they allegedly drugged her with a laced cold drink and gang-raped her inside the vehicle while recording the act on a mobile phone to use for future extortion.
The trauma intensified as the accused used the recorded video to blackmail the victim into silence. Recently, she was forcibly taken by train to an apartment in the Azad Nagar area of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. In a shocking act of human trafficking, the main accused allegedly "sold" her for a night to three other men for ₹50,000. These three individuals gang-raped her in the flat while the original captors recorded further footage. During the return journey to Kolkata, the perpetrators threatened to label her a sex worker and leak the videos if she approached the authorities.
The cycle of abuse continued in Kolkata, where the men pressured her to enter the sex trade and assaulted her again in a moving car. Breaking under the immense pressure and fear, the victim finally confided in her family members and approached the Hastings Police Station. Overcoming the terror of the blackmail material, she filed a formal complaint against the two primary accused from Kolkata and Howrah, as well as the three unidentified men from Jharkhand who participated in the assault at Jamshedpur.
The Kolkata Police have registered a case involving charges of gang rape, drugging, kidnapping, and criminal conspiracy. Investigating officers have stated that the search for the five accused is underway, and efforts are being made to recover and delete the digital evidence used for blackmail. The victim is currently receiving medical and psychological support as the authorities coordinate with the Jharkhand police to track down the suspects involved in the Azad Nagar incident.
