Reconstruction of crime scene in Kasba as probe intensifies in Kolkata college student rape case
A young woman from Krishnanagar was found dead under mysterious circumstances, prompting an investigation into whether it was a murder or suicide. Her body was discovered in a half-burnt and half-naked state, leading her mother to allege that her daughter was gang-raped and murdered. In light of these claims, the police arrested the victim’s boyfriend, although his parents have denied all allegations against him.
Central to the investigation is an audio clip discovered on the victim’s phone, in which a female voice claims responsibility for her own death. Authorities are working to determine if this voice belongs to the deceased. Additionally, a plastic bottle suspected to contain kerosene was recovered from the scene, adding further complexity to the case. Investigators are also examining the victim’s communication history, particularly with her boyfriend, to determine if any coercion was involved.
The investigation revealed that the accused had lent the victim INR 40,000, which he was reportedly demanding back. The police are looking into whether this financial pressure could have contributed to her death. Both the victim and the accused were digital content creators who met online a year ago, with the victim’s mother stating that their relationship began about four months prior to her death.
The victim had previously traveled to Bengaluru to meet her boyfriend, where she stayed for a month before returning home due to family pressure. During her time away, she claimed on social media to have married him, although both families have refuted this claim. The police are currently awaiting the post-mortem report, which is expected to provide critical insights into the cause of death and clarify whether it was a homicide or suicide.
