Kunal faces 'Chor' slogans in Assembly, hits back at Ritabrata with 'rape accused' jibe

The first assembly session of the newly formed state government witnessed chaotic scenes and a fierce political showdown on Tuesday. Following the formal presentation of the state budget on Monday, the House descended into absolute pandemonium as soon as the scheduled discussions commenced. Lawmakers from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the opposition camps engaged in a bitter verbal altercation, trading sharp personal insults and disruptive slogans across the floor.

The flashpoint occurred when Beleghata TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh rose from his seat to deliver his maiden address of the session. As soon as he stood up to speak, opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators immediately began heckling him, aggressively shouting "chor" (thief) slogans to disrupt his speech. The synchronized chanting created a massive commotion, briefly stalling the legislative proceedings and forcing the intervention of the parliamentary staff.

Undeterred by the relentless heckling, Ghosh launched a blistering counterattack targeting both the BJP benches and the breakaway rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee. Directing his speech toward Speaker Rathindranath Bose, Ghosh made a highly provocative remark against the newly minted Leader of the Opposition, questioning the assembly's ethical standards by asking the chair how an individual facing serious criminal charges of rape could be appointed to lead the opposition camp.

Turning back to face the agitating BJP legislators, Ghosh wrapped up his fiery rebuttal with a series of deeply sarcastic remarks. He taunted the opposition benches, asserting that their desperate shouting only proved their underlying political anxiety and fear of his presence in the assembly. He mockingly advised them to get used to their discomfort, telling them to maintain their serious faces and stay afraid of him for the next five years of the legislative term.
