Kunal Ghosh claims 4 BJP MPs will join TMC, sparks speculation on names

As the Bengal assembly elections draw closer, political tensions in the state are escalating. The BJP is facing internal turmoil, with some of its leaders expressing discontent, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is gaining momentum with new defections. In the latest development, BJP MLA Tapsi Mandal from Haldia officially joined the TMC, fueling further speculation about a potential mass exodus from the party.

Adding to the drama, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh has made a bold claim, stating that four BJP MPs and several MLAs are ready to switch sides. While he refrained from naming them, his statement has sparked widespread speculation about who might be next to leave the BJP. This development has put the state BJP leadership under pressure, especially as dissatisfaction among party members grows.

The unrest within the BJP became evident when Kumargram MLA Manoj Ora posted a cryptic message on Facebook, stepping down from all party posts. Though he later clarified that he would remain in the BJP, his post hinted at deep divisions within the party, particularly over leadership issues and the appointment of district presidents. He praised senior leaders Suvendu Adhikari and Dilip Ghosh but noticeably left out Sukanta Majumdar, further fueling speculations about factionalism within the BJP.

Kunal Ghosh, while addressing the political scenario, mocked the BJP’s electoral claims, recalling how in 2021, the party predicted crossing 200 seats but was limited to just 77. He also pointed out that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s seats dropped from 18 to 12, warning that the party’s numbers might dwindle further in the upcoming state elections.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders have attempted to downplay the situation. BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh countered Kunal Ghosh’s claim, stating that the real exodus would be from TMC to BJP rather than the other way around. However, there has been no significant evidence of TMC MLAs defecting to BJP, further strengthening Kunal Ghosh’s assertion.

As political maneuvering intensifies, all eyes are now on the next big defection in Bengal’s political landscape. Whether Kunal Ghosh’s claim of four BJP MPs joining TMC turns out to be true remains to be seen, but the ongoing turmoil has undoubtedly shaken the BJP’s position in the state ahead of the crucial assembly elections.
