Kolkata is witnessing a significant traffic disruption today due to a protest rally organized by Kurmi tribal organization. Tribal community members from various districts have gathered to participate in the protest, leading to congestion in the vicinity of Howrah Bridge.
The main Howrah Bridge connecting Kolkata to Shilpanchal cities has been blocked by tribal organizations early on Friday morning, Hundreds of people from the tribal community started gathering at Howrah Bridge around 9:00 am and began moving in the form of a procession towards Dharmatalla via Brabourne Road.
Thousands of people gathered at Howrah Bridge under the banner of United Forum of All Tribal Organizations demanding inclusion of tribal communities in Dalit and Mahadalit community.
It's unclear how long this rally will last at the moment. The protesting groups claim that their demonstration would continue until everyone has arrived in Dharamtalla. On the other hand, there are also updates coming of hundreds of people from Sealdah moving towards Dharmatalla.
Various areas of Kolkata has come to a standstill because of the traffic congestion. As updated by Kolkata Traffic Police on their social media handle, the following roads has been affected: Esplanade crossing, G C Avenue, Lenin Sarani, J L Nehru Road, Red Road, B B Ganguly Road and Mayo Road
