In a significant move aimed at enhancing governance and development in Ladakh, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the creation of five new districts in the union territory. Home Minister Amit Shah, on Monday, shared that the decision is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to make Ladakh a developed and prosperous region.
The new districts—Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang—are expected to bring government services closer to the people, ensuring that benefits reach even the most remote areas of the territory.
"Ladakh currently has only two districts, Leh and Kargil, each governed by its autonomous district council. With the addition of these new districts, the total number of districts in Ladakh will rise to seven. This move is seen as a major step forward in bolstering governance and creating more opportunities for the people of Ladakh," Amit Shah wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
