No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Kolkata Police headquarters at Lalbazar has issued a stern directive to all city police stations. Every station has been instructed to identify and list the "most notorious" criminals and trouble-mongers operating within their jurisdiction. This specific list will feature the top 10 individuals per station area who are deemed highly likely to incite violence or disruption before or during the polling process.
The directive comes as a step beyond the standard 'trouble mongers' list prepared during every election cycle. This time, the focus is on pinpointing the most dangerous elements to enforce tighter surveillance and preventive measures. These lists will be routed through the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of the respective divisions to Lalbazar, which will then forward the consolidated data to the Election Commission. The objective is to monitor these individuals' movements closely and carry out preemptive arrests if necessary to maintain law and order.
This proactive approach follows the Election Commission's recent decision to suspend the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kasba police station. The suspension reportedly occurred after the officer failed to include a well-known local miscreant from South Kolkata in the official 'trouble monger' records. The incident has served as a wake-up call for the entire police force, emphasizing that any lapse in reporting criminal elements will be met with immediate administrative consequences.
