Lalbazar Headquarters has withdrawn heavy police guard from several key Trinamool leaders, including former ministers. Senior TMC leaders, including current Leader of the Opposition Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, MLA Kunal Ghosh, MP Kalyan Banerjee, and former ministers like Chandrima Bhattacharya, Arup Biswas, and Subrata Bakshi, have all had their residential house guards removed. According to police sources, the house guards stationed at these private residences have been officially recalled to the Lalbazar police lines to optimize the deployment of state security forces.
Former West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) and current Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Kumar, alongside the current Director of Security, Piyush Pandey, are also among the ten prominent names whose security details have been drastically reduced.
The administrative justification behind the move rests on actual positional holding; leaders like Arup Biswas, who lost the recent assembly elections or are no longer part of the cabinet, are being assigned security strictly tailored to their current, non-ministerial status.
