In a dramatic turn of events, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday expelled his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav from both the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the family, citing public conduct that went against their values. The decision came shortly after a photo of Tej Pratap with a woman—captioned as his ‘partner’—went viral on his Facebook page.
Lalu Yadav made the announcement on X, writing that his son’s "activities, public conduct, and irresponsible behaviour" were not in line with the family’s traditions. He further said that ignoring moral values weakens the collective fight for social justice, and therefore, he had no choice but to remove Tej Pratap from the party for six years and strip him of any role in the family.
The controversy erupted when a post on Tej Pratap’s Facebook claimed he had been in a 12-year-long relationship with a woman named Anushka Yadav. The post led to a social media storm, especially in light of Tej Pratap’s turbulent marriage with Aishwarya Rai, which had ended in public acrimony.
In response, Tej Pratap claimed that his Facebook account had been hacked and accused his detractors of trying to defame him and his family. While the post has since been deleted, he has not confirmed whether a formal police complaint has been filed.
