Tension gripped Howrah’s Liluah Chakpada area late last night after a bombing incident spread panic among residents. The attack, believed to be the result of an ongoing rivalry between local groups, took place in the South Chakpada area. According to locals, the violence began earlier on October 12th when miscreants vandalized several homes and assaulted residents, following which complaints were lodged at Liluah police station. The accused later threatened the complainants to withdraw the case, and when they refused, four bombs were reportedly hurled to terrorize the area.
One of the bombs struck the house of Sandesh Ghosh, shattering windows and damaging a nearby car. The blasts triggered widespread fear, forcing several families to leave their homes overnight and take shelter elsewhere. Upon receiving the information, Howrah City Police DCP (North) Vishwachand Thakur, along with Liluah police and RAF personnel, reached the site. Police have since stepped up security, set up pickets in Chakpada and South Chakpada, and initiated a thorough probe.
Officials said CCTV footage has been reviewed and several suspects have been identified. The police suspect the bombing stems from a long-standing conflict between rival local groups over territorial control. Residents have demanded stricter patrolling and swift arrests to restore peace and confidence in the area.
