Late night fire at Ashiana Apartments in Howrah: Two-wheelers gutted, residents safe

A major fire broke out at Ashiana Apartments on Rabindra Sarani Road, Howrah, late at night, causing panic among residents. The fire, which started near the entrance of the multi-storeyed residential complex, quickly spread, engulfing several parked two-wheelers and damaging electrical installations. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as residents and firefighters managed to control the situation in time.

The fire was first spotted by a resident of the ground floor, who noticed thick black smoke covering the main entrance. Alarmed, he alerted the other residents, many of whom woke up to the noise and chaos. The fire rapidly intensified, prompting an immediate report to the Lilua police station. Responding swiftly, police officials contacted the fire brigade, which rushed to the scene.

Despite the intensity of the blaze, local residents attempted to douse the flames by pouring water, preventing further damage to the building. Firefighters arrived shortly after and, with coordinated efforts, managed to bring the fire under control after nearly an hour of rigorous firefighting. Several two-wheelers parked near the entrance were completely charred, but no human injuries were reported.

Initial assessments by firefighters suggest that an electrical short circuit could have triggered the fire. The apartment complex has several electricity meter boxes installed at the entrance, raising concerns about safety measures. Authorities are investigating the exact cause to determine whether faulty wiring or external factors contributed to the incident.

Local police and fire officials from Lilua police station have launched a detailed probe into the fire. Residents have urged authorities to improve fire safety infrastructure in the area, including shifting the meter boxes away from flammable materials. Fire safety inspections may also be conducted to prevent future mishaps.
