No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A massive fire broke out on Wednesday morning at 47A Chittaranjan Avenue in Central Kolkata, sparking chaos and panic in the busy commercial stretch. Dense plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the building, located opposite Yogayog Bhawan and adjacent to the Central Imperial Hotel and All India Forward Bloc’s Hemanta Basu Bhaban.
Multiple fire engines were rushed to the spot as firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the flames. Police quickly cordoned off the area to prevent public movement and ensure safety, while traffic diversions were implemented around the site. The blaze disrupted movement in one of Kolkata’s busiest zones during morning hours.
According to early reports, property damage has been reported, though no casualties have been confirmed yet. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and officials from the fire department have launched an investigation to determine how the blaze started.
Fire officials said the situation is currently under control, but cooling operations are underway to prevent any possible flare-ups.
