Leander Paes, BJP leaders and TMC Councillor join CM Suvendu's 'Run for Yoga' marathon
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari officially kicked off a three-day celebration ahead of the 12th International Yoga Day by leading the 'Daud Se Dhyan' (Run for Yoga) marathon in Kolkata on Friday morning. The mass sporting event commenced from the front gates of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation at 7:00 AM, following an early morning assembly of thousands of health enthusiasts. Following the shift in the state's political administration, this extensive lifestyle campaign was organized simultaneously across eleven major urban hubs in Kolkata and multiple regional districts to actively encourage holistic health, physical wellness, and structural mindfulness among the local citizenry.
The high-profile fitness rally witnessed substantial cross-party participation, adding a significant bipartisan dimension to the state-sponsored health campaign. Notably, Trinamool Congress (TMC) Councillor Ashim Basu attended the event, publicly praising the initiative as a constructive step forward for urban health. Basu stated that his presence was a direct response to the Chief Minister’s formal institutional invitation, emphasizing that the civic opposition remains completely committed to cooperating with developmental and public welfare works that directly benefit the residents of Kolkata and the broader interest of Bengal.
The marathon track culminated at the historic Mahakaran (Writers' Buildings), where Chief Minister Adhikari was joined on stage by prominent public icons, including tennis legend Leander Paes, state cabinet ministers, Chief Secretary, and youth leader Indranil Khan. Upon reaching the venue, the dignitaries and hundreds of registered citizens participated in a synchronized outdoor yoga session directly on the thoroughfare. The successful launch of this marathon marks the first phase of a larger weekend framework, which includes a high-tech riverfront exhibition on Saturday evening and a grand public yoga assembly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.
