Full state honors for Ratan Tata, one day mourning announced in Maharashtra
Left Front parties, including the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), face significant losses in their traditional strongholds of Kerala, West Bengal, and Tripura, with just one Lok Sabha member from each state. Despite being ruling alliances in states like Kerala, where the Left Democratic Front (LDF) governs, the Left parties witness setbacks, with CPI(M) managing to secure only the Alathur parliamentary constituency in Kerala. However, the Left parties garnered a considerable vote share in Kerala, almost double that of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In West Bengal, once a bastion of Left Front rule, the CPI(M) and its allies face a virtual decimation, securing only around 5% of the votes across the state. Despite efforts to engage first-generation voters by fielding student and youth leaders, the Left Front's strategy fails, with the party landing third in many of the 42 Lok Sabha seats. Meanwhile, in Tripura, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continues its winning streak, emerging victorious in both Lok Sabha seats, defeating the Left and Congress alliance, marking its second consecutive victory in the state.
