A fully grown leopard was captured early Thursday in a trap set by the forest department at Dalgon Tea Estate in Alipurduar's Falakata block. The leopard had been causing panic among workers for weeks, with multiple sightings reported. Recently, two female laborers were seriously injured in attacks while working in the tea garden. Following the incidents, authorities deployed a cage trap in a section of the estate.
According to locals, leopard attacks had become frequent in the area, disrupting work and creating fear among laborers. “We were afraid to go to work every day,” said a resident. Upon spotting the caged leopard in the morning, workers immediately informed the forest department. A team of officials and staff arrived at the site, secured the animal, and transported it to a safe location.
The Dooars region, known for its dense forests and tea plantations, has witnessed recurring human-wildlife conflicts. Officials are now assessing the next steps for relocating the leopard to prevent further encounters. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and report any further sightings.
