BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
Panic spread across Kalagachh Market in Chopra on Wednesday after a live bomb reportedly fell onto the road from a man’s bag during a clash between two groups in the marketplace. The incident occurred in the middle of a crowded market area, triggering chaos among traders and local residents. Police later detained two individuals in connection with the incident.
According to local residents, an argument broke out between two groups in the market and quickly escalated into a physical altercation. During the scuffle, a live bomb allegedly fell from the bag of one of the men involved in the confrontation. As soon as people noticed the explosive lying on the road, panic spread throughout the market and local residents surrounded the accused individuals.
Police officer Keshav Baral and DSP Rahul Barman reached the spot with a police team after receiving information regarding the incident. Officers rescued the two accused from the crowd and took them into custody for questioning. A bomb squad was later called to the market to defuse the explosive device safely.
The area was subsequently cordoned off and heavy police deployment was introduced to maintain law and order and prevent further escalation. Police initiated an investigation to determine the origin of the explosive and whether additional individuals were involved in the incident. Investigators are also examining whether the incident was linked to a larger conspiracy.
The incident triggered political reactions in the area after BJP leader Shyamal Sarkar alleged that certain individuals were attempting to create unrest in the locality. Local BJP leaders also claimed that they had been attacked after opposing alleged extortion activities in the region. Police have not yet issued any official statement regarding the political allegations linked to the incident.
