The Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) or LJP-RV is hopeful of securing a berth in the Union Cabinet, with aspirations for an additional state minister position. “We are assured of one berth. A minister of state would be a huge bonus,” said an LJP-RV functionary anonymously.
Paswan refrained from commenting directly, stating that the decision rests with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I do not believe in the politics of bargaining and will continue to support Modi,” he stated. Praising Bihar's Chief Minister, Paswan added, “My chief minister [Nitish Kumar] strongly stands with the NDA like a rock. NDA stands united. Nitish Kumar has played an important role in our performance as an alliance.”
The BJP, unable to secure a majority on its own, will rely on its allies to form the next government. The NDA has comfortably surpassed the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha, while the BJP fell short of the halfway mark for the first time since 2014. The opposition INDIA bloc won 233 seats.
