Rain washes RCB vs KKR match; Defending champions knocked out of playoff race
Local residents blocked National Highway 12 at Kaluadighi in Old Malda on Monday morning demanding the reopening of a closed road crossing. The protest began around 10:30 AM, with local people and school students gathering on the highway to block traffic. They alleged that the National Highway department had earlier closed an important crossing, which was previously used by farmers, students, and others for daily movement.
Protesters stated that the closure of the crossing has caused significant hardship, forcing them to take long detours for routine travel. They said hundreds of farmers in the region depend on the crossing to transport agricultural produce, and the closure has led to severe inconvenience. Locals also claimed that despite repeated appeals to the authorities, including representations to the District Magistrate, no action has been taken to reopen the crossing.
The protest continued for about 40 minutes, causing traffic congestion on National Highway 12. Local residents demanded an immediate solution to restore the crossing and warned that they would continue their agitation if the issue remains unresolved. Protesters highlighted that the crossing was a vital link for the community and its closure has disrupted daily life in the area.
